City of Alexandria Urges Residents to Clear Snow from Storm Drains
December 23, 2009
As the snow continues to melt and heavy rain is expected on Friday, residents are encouraged to help clear snow and ice around storm drains. Accumulated snow and ice near storm drains prevents water from entering them, which could create significant flooding. Standing pools of water could also refreeze when it gets colder.
The City encourages residents to shovel around storm drains between now and late Thursday to help reduce the risk of flooding. For your own safety, please be sure to wear brightly colored clothing or a reflective vest while doing any work in or near the street.
Residents, property owners, and businesses are encouraged to clear snow from their sidewalks to help ensure safe mobility across the City. City crews continue to focus on clearing snow and ice from roads, around fire hydrants, and sidewalks in high pedestrian areas to ensure safety and mobility.
If you have any questions about snow removal, please call the Snow Removal Information Hotline at 703.746.4488. The City of Alexandria appreciates the cooperation and patience of all residents as we continue to recover from this winter storm
